When Megan Taylor from The Copy Template Shop first started selling digital products, she didn’t even realize how much revenue she had built up. It wasn’t until she sat down to prep for this interview that she realized—wow, her digital products had generated six figures.
That’s the beauty of digital products. They grow quietly in the background while you’re busy running your business.
Megan is a copywriter specializing in sales-focused content for online entrepreneurs—course creators, service providers, and digital product sellers. But beyond her client work, she’s built a thriving shop filled with templates, training, and resources for DIYers.
In this conversation, she breaks down how she sells, what works, and the lessons she’s learned along the way.

The Copywriting Niche That Pays the Bills
Megan isn’t just any copywriter—she’s focused on conversion. That means she works on sales pages, funnels, and launch strategies that help online businesses make money.
“I mostly do exclusively sales copy,” she says. “I don’t really touch content anymore. But if you’re looking to convert more people for your online offers, that’s my people.”
While her service-based business has grown mostly through referrals and word-of-mouth, her digital product sales require a different approach. That’s where email marketing and strategic lead generation come in.
How She Finds Her Customers
Megan has two main customer bases: business owners who need custom copywriting services and DIYers who want templates and training.
For her services, clients come to her. “I’ve been very lucky to rely primarily on word of mouth,” she says. “If you show up and do a really, really good job, clients tend to find you along the way.”
But selling digital products requires a more active strategy.
“Anything I can do to get people on my email list, essentially, is what I do and what I double down on.”
That includes:
- ✅ Creating high-value lead magnets (freebies that turn readers into subscribers)
- ✅ Participating in summits and bundles (getting in front of new audiences)
- ✅ SEO strategies (writing blog posts that attract organic traffic)
- ✅ Podcast interviews (like this one!)
Once people join her email list, she introduces them to her shop and nurtures them over time.
“I don’t have a super sophisticated funnel,” she explains. “But when I have something to present to them, I put it in front of them.”

The Sales Strategy That Moves the Needle
So what actually generates revenue?
“It's always email,” Megan says. “Absolutely everything comes from email marketing.”
She keeps it simple: build a relationship with subscribers, provide value, and when it’s time to sell, she sells.
That’s why she encourages other business owners not to overcomplicate their approach.
“I don’t do fancy funnels unless I find that people are coming for a very particular need and I need to put the right things in front of them at the right time.”
Her biggest sales come during promotions, but she also sees consistent trickle-in sales from her email list and strategic tripwire offers.
Tripwires That Actually Work
A tripwire is a limited-time offer shown to a new subscriber immediately after they opt into a freebie. Megan has found that the best-performing tripwires are:
- 💡 Low-ticket (affordable, so it’s an easy yes)
- 💡 Closely related to the freebie (solving the next logical problem)
For example, if someone grabs her free sales page guide, she doesn’t offer them a general website copy template. Instead, she offers a done-for-you sales page template—something they clearly need.
“If you just solved that problem for free, why would they pay you to solve it further? The tripwire has to be an addition to the freebie, not just a repeat.”

The Tech Behind Her Six-Figure Sales
Megan keeps her tech stack lean and effective:
- 🛠 Email provider: Drip (for tagging and tracking customer behavior)
- 🛠 Checkout systems: WooCommerce (for her general shop) and ThriveCart (for high-ticket and special offers)
- 🛠 Product delivery: MemberVault (where customers access templates and training)
- 🛠 Affiliate program: ThriveCart’s built-in system
Her system is designed to scale without needing constant maintenance.
“I keep everything simple. When someone buys, they get a PDF with a link to the learning hub. That way, if I ever change platforms, I don’t have to go back and update every single email.”
Lessons Learned (So You Don’t Have to Learn Them the Hard Way)
- 🚫 Stop chasing strategies you hate.
“Just because you see something working for someone else doesn’t mean it’s right for you. I have a hate-hate relationship with Instagram, so I don’t waste my time there.”
- 🛠 Experiment—but set limits.
“I give myself 90 days to test a new strategy. If it makes at least $1,000 in trackable sales, I keep going. If not, I scrap it.”
- 💰 Digital products aren’t passive—but they’re worth it.
“It’s harder to sell 100 $27 products than it is to sell one $2,700 service. But that’s six figures in revenue I wouldn’t have otherwise had.”
- 🚀 Just start.
“You won’t make daily sales right away. Maybe not even weekly or monthly. But those first few digital product sales? Seeing someone buy something you made without you having to do extra work—that’s an amazing feeling.”

No Magic Required—Just a Willingness to Start
If you’re waiting for the perfect moment to start selling digital products, let this be your sign: stop waiting.
Megan didn’t have a massive audience. She didn’t have complicated funnels. She didn’t even realize she had hit six figures until she checked.
What she did have? A willingness to test, tweak, and trust the process.
The worst thing you can do is nothing. So if you’ve been thinking about launching your first digital product, take Megan’s advice:
“Get started. You won’t know what works for you until you try.”
