I help overwhelmed parents on a journey of self-renewal, leveraging their individual Human Design to carve out nurturing self-care routines, ensuring they reclaim their vitality and fully embrace the joys of parenthood. I also host an EFT Tapping group three times a month where members shift what's keeping them stuck into empowering stories that propel them out of anxiety and into wholeheartedly loving life. When I'm not coaching families into more harmonious routines, you can find me paddleboarding or hanging out on the pontoon boat on the small lake where we live in our dream 'vacation' full-time home.Â
What moment or experience inspired you to start your business? What was your vision at the beginning?
I've been a college professor for over a decade, and the combination of moving all my courses 100% online (first due to COVID and then to accommodate my disability from a chronic spinal cord condition) drove my imagination wild with the possibilities for teaching new ideas in revolutionary new ways!
I've been teaching Art History my entire career, and when I encountered Human Design, it was like all the pieces magically fell into place. I've been teaching for so many years how art helps us learn more deeply what it means to be human, and Human Design helps us learn the very same lessons from a completely different (yet peculiarly analogous) perspective.
What does a typical day for you look like?
Most mornings, after I get my kiddo sent off to school, I enjoy a home-cooked breakfast, usually with eggs and sausage or bacon from our local farm who raises the happiest chickens and pigs ever! After that, most days I listen to wherever my internal excitement directs me towards the dozen or so projects I've currently got on my many burners.
I'll write an email to my subscribers, create a workbook on Canva, or record a lesson for an online course. Most days I've scheduled at least one coffee chat with a new acquaintance or potential client, and often a networking event too, or a podcast recording as a guest.
Throughout my day, I pepper in self-care activities: self-Reiki sessions, walks around my neighborhood, naps, Lego play breaks, or appointments with caregivers to manage my differently-abling chronic health conditions. I make almost all my food from scratch to accommodate my food sensitivities, so I also spend a lot of my time on cooking and food procurement for my family of three.
What unique routines or habits do you believe contribute to your success?
EFT Tapping, using my protocol that integrates Human Design, Reiki, and intuitive/psychic guidance, has completely upended and reconstructed my life, my mental health, and my physical body. Most of the time, I tap when I'm in the shower before bed, processing and releasing all the energy and self-sabotaging stories that I've picked up during the day.
Relaxing in the warm water, allowing my emotions to flow safely, and tapping through whatever feels stickiest brings me into a deep state of peace before sleep. Then after my shower, I do a quick yoga routine to sync up my chakras and stretch out any areas of my body that those emotions were keeping tight.
What's your workstation setup?
I either work next to our fireplace, sitting in my grandmother's rocking chair surrounded by my collection of houseplants (some of whom have been with me for almost 25 years now), and looking out at our lake view, or else at my stand-up desk in my office.
My office has one wall lined in bookshelves holding all sorts of resources on Russian art (which is my academic specialty), including the many books I've published chapters in. On the opposite wall, I have my Reiki altar, which sports a variety of crystals, tarot decks, sometimes flowers, and sculptures and images related to my Spirit Guides (one of whom is Freddie Mercury! Another is an ancient, nearly forgotten Near Eastern Goddess named Anahita).
When I'm on a Zoom, my background wall includes photographs taken by my grandfather of the famous Taos Pueblo potter Maria Martinez, as well as photos of my grandmother chatting with Martinez, as well as a poster of an ancient Egyptian hippopotamus sculpture 'voguing' and a blue LED light that keeps my plant and my brain happy during dark Ohio winters.
Where do you go to look for inspiration?
I get a lot of my ideas on Zooms with the various Human Design and entrepreneur online communities that I'm part of, and the podcasts that I'm a guest on. I also frequently get ideas from IG and FB; I'll spontaneously write a three-paragraph reply to someone's post, and I'll realize, hey, that would be a great newsletter topic!
What core values drive your business, and how have they shaped your path?
Listening to my body is my non-negotiable value. If I'm not in energetic integrity with what my body needs first, then I can't serve my clients, my business, my family, and all the others in this world whom I'm here to serve.
This means checking in with my body regularly throughout my day, especially before tackling a new item on my agenda, and even as I'm in my flow. I make sure that what my body needs (eating, medication, supplements, sitting down, standing up, taking a walk, going outside, taking a nap, doing yoga...) is always my first priority. This means that my body is learning to trust me to take care of it, and in turn, it takes care of me so that I can keep doing what I love to do.
When I was recovering from spinal cord surgery, that's what motivated me to get out of bed each day despite the pain that I wished could have been mind-numbing but obstinately refused to numb anything: I wanted to get through this because I wanted to be able to continue to do what I loved to do: teach, share my knowledge, inspire joy in learning what I love to teach others.
What part of your business are you most proud of?
I'm most proud of my Intuitive EFT Tapping membership. It provides a high-quality service that would cost thousands of dollars to people at just $25 per month.
The results that my clients achieve through our sessions are profoundly life-changing: They move past traumas and hidden stuck emotions that bring them into states of incredible peace and calm, relieving anxieties and pains that have plagued them for decades.
What’s a challenge you’re currently working on in your business?
I am launching a new high-ticket, one-to-one coaching program to support overwhelmed parents. This launch is unlike anything I've ever attempted before, and it's pushing me out of my comfort zone to have a lot of one-to-one sales conversations.
What music do you listen to while working?
Honestly, I get too distracted by music! Sometimes Bach will not be too much, but normally I work in silence.
What’s one piece of advice someone gave you that you’ll never forget?
"That's not your mud." Meaning, we all have our own mud to deal with. We don't need to add onto our burden by trying to clean up someone else's mud too—which is actually a serious disservice to them, because they have to clean up their own mud to learn whatever it is that their mud is here to teach them.
Any advice for ambitious professionals in your field?
Focus on what truly resonates with you and your experiences. Authenticity is key.
What shortcuts are you eyeing next on World of Shortcuts?
I'm loving the No More Double Chin workshop from Bloom Face Yoga! It has been such a huge help with helping drain the lymph from my current sinus infection!Â
