I help busy women build healthier habits to fuel their energy for the day ahead. I also blog about healthy recipes, self-care tips, and healthy living, which lets me continue learning and share that knowledge with others. When I’m not coaching women on their health, you can find me walking my dog, Nya, browsing my local market, or lazing in my hammock with a good book.
What moment or experience inspired you to start your business? What was your vision at the beginning?
I struggled with my own health for years. While trying to figure out what was “wrong” with me, I went down a rabbit hole of learning about nutrition. That journey sparked my passion for sharing what I was learning, which is how my business, Compass Rose Nutrition, began.
What does a typical day for you look like?
A typical day starts slow—I’m a big fan of rest and love to keep my mornings unrushed. I start with a cup of tea, a meditation, and a quick check of my schedule before sitting down to breakfast. I’ve always enjoyed a big breakfast—it’s a habit from childhood that sets me up with great energy for the day.
By 10 a.m., I’m at my desk, ready to work. I love what I do, so it’s always enjoyable to dive in and check on my clients. While I’m not a morning person, I’ve come to really appreciate my morning routine!
What unique routines or habits do you believe contribute to your success?
Going through some serious health challenges taught me to find joy in small moments. A routine can feel mundane unless we actively look for the things we enjoy. I take time to savor my meditation, the hug from my husband when he gets home, or even watercolor painting—something I’m not great at but love to do. Cooking, walking in the sun, and nourishing myself with good food also bring me joy. The key is finding and appreciating the little things.
What’s your workstation setup?
My desk overlooks a stunning river valley surrounded by forest. It’s breathtaking year-round, but my favorite time is summer when the sky is bright blue, the birds are chirping, and the sun lights up the room. My desk is simple and tidy, with lots of plants, a Moroccan spice candle, and a few of my favorite crystals adding a personal touch.
Where do you go to look for inspiration?
When I need inspiration, I head outside for a walk. The fresh air clears my head, the sun feels amazing, and a change of scenery often sparks new ideas.
What core values drive your business, and how have they shaped your path?
One of my core values is prioritizing my own health above almost everything else. Experiencing serious health struggles has given me a deep appreciation for wellness and a strong perspective on what it takes to commit to better health. I encourage my clients to prioritize their health because no one else will do it for us.
What part of your business are you most proud of?
I’m proud of sticking with my business through both good and challenging times, personally and professionally. It’s bigger than me—it’s helped so many women, and that’s something I’m truly proud of.
What’s a challenge you’re currently working on in your business?
Right now, my biggest challenge is keeping things simple. I tend to overcomplicate things (hello, shiny object syndrome!). While I love learning and trying new things, I’ve learned that business works best when it’s simple. It’s a lesson I’m continually working on.
What music do you listen to while working?
I don’t typically listen to music while working.
What’s one piece of advice someone gave you that you’ll never forget?
“Go take a nap.” It’s simple, but it reminds me to give myself time to rest and recover. Sometimes stepping away—whether it’s for a nap or a walk—is the reset we need. It’s often more productive to take a break than to push through.
Any advice for ambitious professionals in your field?
Take the time to care for yourself. Prioritize rest, stay curious, and don’t be afraid to keep things simple—it can make all the difference.
