I help clients recover from PTSD using Homeopathy. I also find remedies for kids with Autism. Soon I will be adding a podcast and Enneagram coaching to my business. When I am not being a homeopath, you can find me hiking with my Bernedoodle, singing, playing piano, or traveling.
What moment or experience inspired you to start your business? What was your vision at the beginning?
Over twenty years ago I was walking my Akita Pup on a typical Minnesota Winter day, when I fell on the ice and sustained a large bruise. I went to a friend's house and asked her for ice later in the day. She told me about Arnica for physical trauma. I went to a local store that sold remedies and also picked up three books on homeopathy. By the time I was done reading them, I knew I wanted to be a homeopath!
What does a typical day for you look like?
I start the day with 30 minutes of meditation and then sometimes go to the gym. I either go to my office or send out Zoom links to my clients. Then appointments begin. The day also includes working on client files and sending out remedies. At the end of the day, if it is light out, my dog gets a walk and I make dinner. Finally, I settle down to a book or I watch TV.
What unique routines or habits do you believe contribute to your success?
Meditation at the beginning of the day is a non-negotiable habit. Sometimes I am chanting alone and other times with my husband. My family and my dog contribute greatly to my happiness.
What's your workstation setup?
In my home office, I have a desk with a stand-up topper and a second monitor. My office away from home also has a stand-up topper. A window is an absolute requirement for me to work. My desk faces a window at home. Feng Shui requires the window to be to the side of the desk in my other office.
Where do you go to look for inspiration?
When I need inspiration or ideas, especially when I am stuck on a client file, I look into one of Colin Griffith's New Materia Medica Homeopathy books.
What core values drive your business, and how have they shaped your path?
I follow the teachings of Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, who is the founder of the principles of homeopathy. His book, The Organon of the Medical Art, always helps me make the right decision. One of my favorite aphorisms is this one:
"He is likewise a sustainer of health if he knows the things that disturb health, that engender and maintain disease, and is aware of how to remove them from healthy people." --Dr. Samuel Hahnemann
What part of your business are you most proud of?
I am most proud of the preliminary study I conducted to see if homeopathy could help people recover from PTSD. (It can.) I provided no-cost services to approximately 15 individuals struggling with PTSD. Everything from the intake forms to the outcome of the study is one of the high points of my 20+ years of practicing homeopathy.
What’s a challenge you’re currently working on in your business?
I built my business most recently on social media. But the algorithms seem to have changed and natural health-related posts aren't being shown to as many people as they used to be. So I have had to pivot. Part of that includes starting a podcast.
What music do you listen to while working?
I absolutely cannot listen to music while I am working. But driving to my away-from-home office includes listening to podcasts that include messages for life. If I'm more in the mood for music, it must affect my emotions through a combination of music and lyrics.
What’s one piece of advice someone gave you that you’ll never forget?
A crisis isn't what happens. It is how we respond to what happens.
